General Information and oil pump housing cautions.Blog entry for 5-15-2008 We at Fliteline Engine Supply are proud to announce our new website and informative blog. We will be using this as a form of trading information with our customers, co-workers, and the general public. Fliteline has been in the engine remanufacturing business since 1948. Now for our first post, on all engines that have aluminum front covers that house the oil pump. If you do not install a new factory timing cover you will cause premature failure of the new remanufactured engine, most of which will be debris from the head wear. Even the most minute amount of wear can cause oil pump failure and valve train failure. You will notice this by abnormal or excessive amounts of “lifter” tapping. The tapping will be metal on metal hitting due to no oil getting to the top of the cylinder head. Also this could be caused if you use any kind of gasket sealant on the rear housing plate. Like that on the 3.8 General Motors V6 specifically the vin K. The sealant will block off an oil galley and cause premature failure of the engine. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. Also if you have any items you want addressed please let us know, we are here to help you the consumer. Fliteline Engine Supply Management |
