3.8L GM Aluminum Timing Covers with Built in Oil Pump

When installing a remanufactured engine in your GM vehicle it is recommended you replace the timing cover with a factory new cover. Simply replcaing the oil pump gears does not bring the correct tolerances back to the aluminum housing.

What is a Remanufactured Longblock?

A remanufactured longblock is the combination of 1) a remanufactured short block with 2) the cylinder heads torqued onto the short block. Peripheral items such as the oil pan, valve covers, timing cover are not included. Fliteline's remanufactured longblocks include push rods, lifters and rocker arms. All of our longblocks are pre-tested on a SIM Test machine to insure engine has the correct compression on each cylinder as well as correct oil pressure and oil flow. All moving components are machined or replaced.

GM Oil Coolers and Oil Cooler Lines

When installing a remanufactured engine in any GM vehicle equipped with an "Oil Cooler" replacement of the "Cooler" and oil lines is highly recommended to prevent damage to the vehicle. Cleaning or draining the system will not work and will only loosen particles into your newly installed engine.

"Do Not Stack" Shipping Cones

In order to reduce shipping damage Fliteline has added a cardboard "Do Not Stack" cone securely strapped to our engines. Please be aware and check your product carefully in the event the cone is damaged or missing. Fliteline is not responsible for damage in shipping.Customers must inspect for damages and file a claim with the common carrier in the event damage is found.

Blog entry for 5-15-2008

We at Fliteline Engine Supply are proud to announce our new website and informative blog. We will be using this as a form of trading information with our customers, co-workers, and the general public. Fliteline has been in the engine remanufacturing business since 1948.

Now for our first post, on all engines that have aluminum front covers that house the oil pump. If you do not install a new factory timing cover you will cause premature failure of the new remanufactured engine, most of which will be debris from the head wear. Even the most minute amount of wear can cause oil pump failure and valve train failure. You will notice this by abnormal or excessive amounts of “lifter” tapping. The tapping will be metal on metal hitting due to no oil getting to the top of the cylinder head. Also this could be caused if you use any kind of gasket sealant on the rear housing plate. Like that on the 3.8 General Motors V6 specifically the vin K. The sealant will block off an oil galley and cause premature failure of the engine.

Please feel free to leave comments and questions. Also if you have any items you want addressed please let us know, we are here to help you the consumer.
